THIRD-PARTY LICENSES AND ATTRIBUTIONS
=====================================

Tagalingo is built on the work of many open-source authors and creators.
This file preserves the attributions and license notices required by the
assets and software bundled into the distributed application.

ICONS — Streamline "Freehand" (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The application bundles icons from the Streamline "Freehand" set, inlined into
the production JavaScript bundle.

Under CC BY 4.0 you are free to share and adapt the material for any purpose,
including commercially, provided you give appropriate credit, provide a link to
the license, and indicate if changes were made. Some Streamline icons in this
project have been adapted (e.g. recolored or resized) for use in the app.

FONTS — Inter and Averia Serif Libre (SIL Open Font License 1.1)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The application bundles the Inter and Averia Serif Libre typefaces, packaged by
Fontsource (@fontsource/inter, @fontsource/averia-serif-libre).

The full license text ships alongside each package in node_modules.

AUDIO — ElevenLabs (voice and sound effects)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spoken lesson audio is generated with ElevenLabs text-to-speech. The interface
sound effects in public/sounds/ (card-correct.wav, card-wrong.wav,
deck-celebrate.mp3, deck-shuffle.mp3, level-up.mp3, session-complete.mp3) were
generated with the ElevenLabs Sound Effects tool.

    ElevenLabs — https://elevenlabs.io

Tagalingo holds a commercial ElevenLabs plan (awarded through the ElevenLabs
small-business grant). Under the ElevenLabs Terms of Service, a paid/commercial
plan grants ownership of and commercial distribution rights to the generated
audio.

IMAGES — OpenAI image generation and Ludo.ai
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The illustrations, background patterns, and scene images bundled in the app
(public/patterns/, public/landing/, public/onboarding/, and public/assets/)
were generated with OpenAI's image generation model. Under the OpenAI Terms of
Use, OpenAI assigns to the user all of its right, title, and interest in the
generated output, which may be used commercially.

The JR mascot artwork and animation frames (public/mascot/) were generated with
Ludo.ai. Under the Ludo.ai terms, generated assets are owned by the user and may
be used commercially.

Original vector assets authored by Tagalingo (for example public/onboarding/
study-deck.svg) are owned by Tagalingo and are not third-party material.

VOCABULARY DATA — Wiktionary (CC BY-SA) via Kaikki, AI-refined
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tagalingo's dictionary data is derived in part from English Wiktionary entries,
obtained through the Kaikki.org machine-readable extracts, then refined with AI
assistance and human review.

    Wiktionary — https://www.wiktionary.org
    Kaikki.org (Wiktextract) — https://kaikki.org

and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL).
    CC BY-SA 4.0 — https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

Wiktionary content is dual-licensed CC BY-SA and GFDL. Under CC BY-SA, content
derived from it must credit the source and be made available under the same
license; AI refinement does not remove this obligation. Accordingly, Tagalingo
makes its Wiktionary-derived dictionary content available under CC BY-SA 4.0.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tagalingo is built with open-source software packages distributed under
permissive licenses, primarily the MIT, Apache-2.0, ISC, and BSD licenses.
The copyright and permission notices of these packages are preserved within the
distributed bundle and within their source distributions in the project's
node_modules directory. Each package remains the property of its respective
copyright holders.

The MIT License (and the BSD and ISC licenses, which are substantially similar)
requires that the above copyright notice and the permission notice be included
in all copies or substantial portions of the software. The Apache License 2.0
requires that recipients receive a copy of the license and retain attribution
notices. Those notices are retained.

Pronunciation recordings

Some Tagalog pronunciations in Tagalingo derive from native-speaker recordings sourced from Lingua Libre and Wikimedia Commons, used under their Creative Commons licences. The credits below name the recording and recorder each sourced clip is based on.

We change these recordings before using them: each is either adjusted in volume and trimmed of silence at the start and end, or converted into the Tagalingo voice.

Images

The illustrations, background patterns, and scene art throughout the app are generated with OpenAI's image generation. JR, our jeepney mascot, was created with Ludo.ai.
